Restyle Day 5 - Pastel

It was only a few weeks ago that I exclaimed how much I love pastel and baby colours and all that girly stuff, and now I have to be honest and say it was SO HARD to find anything I liked to fit in with todays pastel prompt. All of the pastel clothing I found was also super frilly and girly. I really wanted to find a minimalist style of clothing in feminine colour, rather than a pastel blouse covered in frills and bows (I found so many of them!).

This pale yellow dress is from the vintage rack of the Australian Red Cross op shop in Duncraig. It's still a very feminine style (it comes with a matching frilly jacket) but the dress itself doesn't have any bows and I liked the pleats in the skirt. I decided to dress down this whole look by layering a t-shirt and my leather jacket, I think it keeps the outfit from being too sickly and sweet.

You will probably notice over the coming weeks that everything I have bought from the vintage rack at the Red Cross Duncraig store is more expensive than anything else. I must admit that from a customers point of view I hate it when op shops mark up vintage items, but I can totally understand it. When I stand umming and ahhing in an op shop about spending $20 on an authentic vintage item, I have to remind myself that if I were in Myer or David Jones and something was $20 I wouldn't hesitate to buy it and then brag about it to my friends. Vintage is getting harder and harder to find and any specialised vintage shop is always going to be priced much higher than an op shop. If you find a vintage piece in an op shop that's in good condition and you love it, I'd definitely recommend you snap it up immediately. If the higher price is hard to swallow then just remember that all that extra money is going to a cause that really needs your support.

  1. Another beautiful outfit, Hannah. You've been very clever, like Vicki, and balanced the volume of the skirt with stripes and interesting things (love that necklace!) on the top. Inspirational!
