Oh Autumn

Oh Autumn, you truly are my favourite season for getting dressed. While I do love a vintage dress or a crazy clash of prints and colours, sometimes just layering up with comfy basics is the best thing ever. I bought this a-line skirt recently and have been living in it. The khaki colour is a new one for my wardrobe, but like denim it just goes with everything. Pairing it with stripes and leather isn’t exactly ground breaking, but it sure is easy to throw on and run out of the house (or in this case to my aunt’s property in Toodyay).

Also, let me draw your attention to my striped Bassike T. I got this for 25 cents at Good Sammies… I was super excited about it because I know these tops retail for about $100. The most startling thing is that while I own about 27 striped Ts, I reach for this one every time and hence have come to the conclusion that I would actually pay $100 for this top because it’s just that good. That being said, I am much happier with my 25 cent price tag!

Life Recently

Just like I say every month… I CAN’T BELIEVE it’s the end of March already. I sound like a broken record, but I’m sure you all feel the same way too. This month has been particularly good because Luke and I bought home our very own little fur baby! Insert ONE MILLION heart eye emojis! We adopted a 14 week old Red Heeler cross from the RSPCA and named her Blue. She is just the cutest thing ever!  We’ve had a number of sleepless nights and a few tears when she ate one of my favourite brooches, but we are now falling into a fun routine of play dates, walks, training and LOTS of cuddles. This is our first pet and while I was terrified for the first week that we’d accidently kill her (like I’ve done with all my plants) I now feel quietly confident that we have this ‘puppy ownership’ thing in the bag. Plus having a living, breathing, nipping reminder to go for a daily walk is very helpful!

The rest of my month has involved…

Eating biscuits, my new work place seems to have a never ending supply of bickies… seriously dangerous!
Drinking G&Ts
Wearing my denim jacket and Fendi cross body bag, both fairly new purchases which I am loving
Buying shoes… I went on an eBay spree and got some fab Missoni wedges and pair of lace up Free People booties. Oops.
Lusting after a holiday!
Watching House reruns in bed with red wine and popcorn. Serious guilty pleasure stuff right there!
Reading blogs blogs blogs, trying to get my Autumn/Winter style game sorted.
Dreaming of the Easter long weekend! Two months into my new job and I need some down time to let my brain switch off
Playing with my baby girl Blue

So that’s my month! What have you been up to lately?

Have a happy Easter!!

Spin the Pin

Happy Friday! I thought I’d have another go at Spin the Pin, which is a super fun outfit challenge dreamt up by the lovely Jo from iCurvy. She challenges her readers and insta followers to re-interpret another bloggers outfit. For the month of March the blogger in question is Lacey from A Lacey Perspective and here’s the outfit…

Umm, hello nautical! Stripes and a pop of red? Of course I was going to give it a go! Here’s my ‘spin’ on the look…

I took my favourite elements from Lacey’s image and created an outfit that has the same nautical/preppy vibe. Mine also had a vintage spin, because I just couldn’t resist throwing on my cat eye sunnies and 60s brooch. Stripes with white, navy and red are a very classic look which can be worn in so many different ways. I could have happily gone down a casual route with shorts and striped t, but seeing as I wear that almost every weekend I thought this might be a more exciting blog-friendly version. I wore this outfit to work last week and loved every second of it!

How would you interpret Lacey’s look to fit with your own style?

Fish Tails

GUYS! I just taught myself how to do fishtail braids and now I can’t get enough. They are super easy too, I have no idea why I’ve never tried before. Another hair style to add to my arsenal of ‘I really don’t want to wash my hair’ go-tos.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before, but I really really hate washing my hair. It’s super thick and takes forever to dry, so I never want to get it wet. Also because I train four or five times a week there never seems to be a time when washing and drying my hair is ‘worth it’ because I know it will just get all sweaty and gross within 12 hours or so. When I shot these photos on the weekend, I hadn’t washed my hair for 7 days, I was relying soley on dry shampoo and some strategic braiding/hat placement to get me through.

Enough hair talk, on to the outfit! I love that the weather is cooling down slightly so I can start bringing out my felt hats and maxi skirts, they are excellent transitional pieces which will see me happily through Autumn and into Winter. Bring on boot weather I say!

Sport Luxe

Is sports luxe still a trend? I know it was last year because it was one of the themes for Restyle. At the time I found it pretty difficult to crack, but that's because I hadn't found this top yet! I bought this Fabletics sports top at Vinnies, thinking it would be a perfect addition to my volleyball training gear. I was right. I've worn it to training at least once a week since I got it. What I didn't realise was that it could do double duty as a regular top as well!

The other night while putting together an outfit to go see a Fringe show, I was desperately in need of a high neck top that was still kinda sexy... enter the backless sports top! The mesh detailing at the neckline and the cool drapey back made for a perfect match with my leather skirt and strappy heels.

I'll definitely still be wearing this top to training, but it's awesome to know I've got another black going out top option if I need it!

Rainbow Bright

I popped into Good Sammies the other day to look for a vase and as I made a beeline for the homewares I couldn’t help but be distracted by two young girls who were flicking through the dresses. One of them pulled this colourful number off the rack and showed it to her friend who burst out laughing and said it looked like a rainbow had yakked all over it. Of course I immediately scooped it up and headed to the change rooms. Not only was I impressed that someone still used the term ‘yak’ but also I’m obviously going to love anything that looks like the contents of a rainbows’ stomach.

I added my brightest pink necklace and fluro green shoe clips too, if you’re going to look like rainbow bright you may as well go the whole hog! ¸
