Vintage Perfection

I found this vintage maxi dress waiting for me at the Save the Children op shop in Mosman Park. It was love at first sight! When I took it up to the counter to pay for it the lovely volunteer tentatively asked whether I would be changing it in any way. I promised her that I planned to wear it exactly as it is, the relief in her eyes was tangible!

I’m certainly not opposed to altering vintage pieces to fit your style a little better. There is no point having a wardrobe full of glorious vintage if you are never going to wear it. But every now and then I come across something that is so perfect just the way it is. This dress fits like a dream, the print is amazing and the perma-pleats are perfection, I don’t need to change a single thing!

With the right accessories you can easily make a vintage dress a little more modern (and save the little old lady behind the counter from a heart attack!). When the weather cools down I’ll wear this dress with my leather jacket and boots, but for now a hat and sweet sunnies does the job nicely.

Sequins and Smiles

A night out with the girls always calls for something a bit special; lots of sequins, sparkle and a little vintage.

 

This green skirt is a recent Melville Markets find and I am in love! It’s pretty tight, so after my second helping of dessert and third cocktail at el Publico, it was feeling a little on the snug side!

I just realised that the last time I wore this sequined kaftan top was almost exactly a year ago to the day! How weird is that? I really should wear it more often because I do love it. I don’t usually wear things this low cut, but the shape of this top and the fact it is loose and has long sleeves, means the little cleavage I do flash is classy… I hope!

Summer Haze

As I mentioned in my last Life Recently post, I’ve been on a bit of an eBay binge recently and I purchased a few pairs of shoes. These Miu Miu sandals might be my favourite eBay purchase ever. They cost me $49 and are amazing. Seriously if you haven’t been on eBay recently then I would definitely recommend checking it out, especially if you are lusting after some designer shoes or accessories but can’t bring yourself to buy them full price (eBay is my go-to spot for fancy sunnies).

It can be a little dangerous though, there is function that allows you to save some key words, so you get an email any time someone puts up an item you are searching for. This is probably why in the last two weeks I’ve bought these Miu Miu sandals, some sparkly J Crew heels and a pair of red Marc Jacobs pumps… eek!

As soon as these beauties arrive in the mail I knew exactly what outfit I wanted to wear. This tie die dress is one of my favourites (ha! How many times have I said that?!), my boyfriend bought it for me from a little market stall in Thailand about 4 years ago and it has come with me on every tropical holiday since. It’s perfect for throwing on when it’s hot and sticky, which is exactly what Perth has been like recently!

Street Style Steal

Well hello there! For this fine Monday morning I have a new Street Style Steal for you! I love this look so much, mixing prints is my favourite and when I saw this image bouncing around Pinterest I knew straight away I wanted to give it a go.

Spots are pretty much the easiest print to mix others with and this particular fashionista obviously thought so to. The short flippy skirt worn with a masculine camo print t and comfy brogues is such a great combination of uber girly and tom boyish. It’s such an easy outfit to wear and one I will definitely be repeating!

I already owned the spotty skirt but I needed to find a camo print t-shirt, so after asking my ex-military housemate if he had one (he didn’t) I went searching through my favourite op shops. I don’t know if I’m lucky or I just know what kind of things I am most likely to find in an op shop, but so far every Street Style Steal item I’ve needed to source has only taken me one or two trips to find (touch wood!). The same went for this t-shirt. I saw the picture, decided to recreate it and the first op shop I walked into had this camo T waiting for me in the mens section.

Life Recently

Gosh who can believe it’s the end of Summer already?! The past three months seemed to have zipped by didn’t they? Although I feel like I’m saying that at the end of each month! February was a fairly uneventful month for me, but as the year pushes on I have lots to look forward to, including the big move into our very own home! I’m been trawling Pinterest for DIY decorating ideas and already have some projects I’m dying to try. I’ve also started collecting art and interesting frames so I can create a massive gallery wall in our new living room. After years of living in rentals I am SO EXCITED to be able to hang things on the walls!

Anyway, this is what I’ve been up to in the last month…   

Eating chocolate and my skin is not thanking me!

Drinking soy milk. I’m trying to cut out dairy and it turns out that soy caps aren’t actually that bad! Who knew?

Even the most fashion obsessed girl can have days where they just can’t be effed. As much as I love getting dressed up and creating interesting and new outfits, I’ve come to realise that it’s important to have a few things in your wardrobe that you can throw on and go and still look acceptable.

I know a little black dress is a bit of a cliché, but it’s a cliché for a good reason. This one is perfect, it’s wash and wear with a simple shape and a work-appropriate length. All I needed to do was add some accessories to snazz it up and then twist my dirty hair into a bun and TA DA! All set for a day in front of my computer (hooray).

Pay close attention to my shoes though please, thanks to my Buy Nothing New challenge I’ve been prowling eBay a little more than usual and found these awesome sparkly J Crew pumps for a steal. I’ve been on a bit of a shoe-shopping binge recently and have another few pairs coming in the post… don’t tell my boyfriend though!

Weekend Wear

OK I’ve been sitting staring at my laptop for about 20 minutes trying to think of something to say, but nothing is coming! Normally I can babble on about my outfits endlessly and have to cut out huge paragraphs of waffle, but today is not the case. I could wait until I’ve thought of something interesting to type, but I really love this outfit and I want to share it right now!
