Take Two

So I promised I’d give you another way to style this basic black tube dress (there are endless ways!) and here it is…

Wear it layered with a skirt of course! The other day I was just in a skirt mood, when I was pulling all my summer clothes out of storage I found this vintage beauty and suddenly it was all I could think about wearing. So layering it over a basic black dress was the perfect way to keep my Frocktober challenge and still get to wear the skirt.

I really love the cut of this dress, so I’ve actually worn it as a top a few times already. As long as you vary up the accessories and skirts, people will never know you are re-wearing the same simple black dress over and over! It’s magic!

One Week In

We’re one week into Frocktober! Have you been rocking a frock each day? I’m super excited by the glorious weather we’ve been having, I’ve been able to pull all of my lovely summer dresses and sandals out of their winter hiding places.

Now this black dress may not appear to be anything special, but I must say it’s one of the most versatile things in my wardrobe. Particularly during Frocktober when you need to stretch your collection of dresses to last for a whole month. A black tube dress is essential! This one is from Supre (by way of Salvos) and is so easy to wear. It can scrunch up into a suitcase, hides a myriad of marks and the slightly athletic neckline is super flattering on broad shouldered girls like myself. It can be dressed up with heels and the right jewellery or down with some casual accessories and flats. I wore this outfit on the weekend, perfect for running errands and catching up for coffee.

How do you like my little bag? I decided I wanted to customise a cross over bag with my initials, so I set about finding a cheap (just in case the DIY failed!) black bag in an op shop. It didn’t take me long to find this one for $1 in the bargain bin at Good Sammies, I then bought some iron on letters from Spotlight and super glued them to the bag. It took me all of 30 seconds and I’m so happy with how it turned out. I want to put my initials on everything now!

Next week I’ll share another way to style this dress, which will let you get SO much more wear out of it and people won’t realise you’re repeating too often.

P.S Apparently this dress gives me quite the ghetto booty... who knew I possessed such a thing?!

Something Pretty

Nothing inspires you to dress up more than a pretty new frock! I wanted to share this gorgeous dress with you today, it was very kindly gifted to me by the lovely Petra from AVA. I received the package in the post on the day after my birthday, which was also the day I found out about my thyroid tumour, so to say it arrived at the right time is an understatement, it seriously made my day! I’ve never actually met Petra in person, but she clearly knows me well, because this dress just screams HANNAH. The beautiful floral print, the fantastic vintage-inspired style and the seriously cool neckline. I’m totally in love with it.

I wore this outfit to a work function on Friday night. Petra designs clothes for the woman on the go, and this dress was perfect for a networking event. It has two massive pockets hidden in the pleats which easily fit my phone and business cards, so I could wonder around with free hands ready to snatch passing canapés and network my butt off.
Thanks for the fab frock AVA, it certainly makes dressing up fun when you have something as lovely as this to wear!

Frocked Up

HAPPY FRIDAY! It’s the second day of Frocktober, have you been donning a dress each day? I have! I wore this little number yesterday for the very first day of the month and I gotta say I sure do love it. I’ve had this vintage dress for a few years and have actually worn it on the blog twice before (here and here). Both times I styled it almost identically to the way I’m wearing it now… oops! I guess this dress just calls for white shoes and a side part. If it works, it works!

I’m also show casing my new sunnies! These House of Holland beauties were a birthday present to myself. They also come in a more sedate torteshell, but I couldn’t resist the wild see-through pink. What do you think? A bit Elton John meets Dame Edna right? Just the way I like it!

I’m zooming down south this weekend with some of my great and newly engaged friends! We are going to scope out wedding venues, bask in the sun and scream bloody murder at the pub while watching the grand final. Sounds like a pretty perfect weekend huh?! I hope yours is good too!

Frocktober!

Hey guys! GUESS WHAT?! Tomorrow is the first day of October (but you probably already knew that) which means it’s the first day of FROCKTOBER! The classic Frocktober Challenge is to wear a dress every day for the whole month. That’s 31 one days of dressy goodness, how fun!

Frocktober raises money for Ovarian Cancer, which is an extremely good cause and one that needs all the money and awareness it can get. If wearing a dress every day this month is just too hard then you could try to wear a dress once a week, or even just one day during the month. I’m planning to wear a different frock for every work day, that’s 22 different dresses! Challenge accepted!

Luckily I’ve got quite a few dresses in my arsenal, so finding a frock for each day of my challenge will be fun not stressful. I’ve actually written down a list of the outfits I want to wear this month (because I’m a bit OCD like that!). These images are a bit of a walk down memory lane for my blog and also my wardrobe, it will be good to pull some of these out of the depths of my cupboards and give them some time in the sun!

So are you going to accept the Frocktober Challenge? If you are (or if you aren’t!) you can find out more information here and more importantly you can donate to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation here.

Tassels

Last Saturday I caught up with my friend Darek again from WithU Photography to do a quick outfit shoot in Freo. I’m was ecstatic to have a professional shoot me again and was also super excited to wear this outfit. This tasselled leather jacket is one of my most prized possessions. I picked it up in a thrift store in San Luis Obispo when my brother and I were road tripping around California. Very few people completely ‘get’ my sense of style, but my wonderful brother does 100%. I was hesitant to buy it because the jacket wasn’t particularly cheap and it’s so outrageous but Sim insisted I had to have it for exactly that reason. I’m so glad I listened to him. At the time we were on our way to Las Vegas and I have to admit it’s the perfect Vegas jacket, I felt like Dolly Parton walking down the strip!

Now when ever I wear this jacket I always remember that fab trip with just my brother and I in our rented mustang (yes we hired a convertible mustang in America in December… clever). I love it when a piece of clothing comes with such a strong memory! Long story short; this outfit makes me feel awesome, HOORAY!

Thanks Darek for all the wonderful photos, prancing around Freo while someone follows you with a camera is pretty fun!

Life Recently

So this time last month I was going on and on about how much I love the month of September and the start of Spring and bla bla bla. But to be honest my September has kind of taken me by surprise. I had a major health scare which frightened the shit out of me. I spent the first two weeks of the month terrified I was going to die (I’m just slightly melodramatic) and the last two weeks of the month feeling rotten because of my new medication. BUT it hasn’t all been bad. My boyfriend’s lovely parents have been visiting us from Queensland, so we’ve been playing tourists in our own city which is always a treat. I celebrated the birthdays of some of my absolute favourite people including myself (haha), my boyfriend, my cousin and one of my best friends. Also two of my great friends got engaged at the start of the month! So we drank lots of champagne and ate far too much cheese in celebration. See it hasn’t all been bad!

Eating too much chocolate, my skin is NOT thanking me
Drinking many many cups of Earl Grey
Cooking not much, my boyfriend’s folks have been cooking! #score!
Watching the Bachelor
Buying the perfect button up denim skirt for Summer (after a long op shop search!)
Wearing my new gold birks everywhere, they were my best purchase in a long time!

Reading forums online about people with thyroid problems… I really need to stop scaring myself
Avoiding my bank account, our new house is almost finished and I’ve been shopping up a storm, much to the detriment of my savings account
Browsing for the perfect red dress. I’m a bridesmaid for my cousin at the end of the year and her only specification is that I wear a red dress. I’m determined to find one in an op shop!
Needing another holiday. Exactly 3 months until Christmas… is it too early to start counting down?

So September wasn’t exactly as I anticipated, but when is life ever? October is definitely going to be fun, I’m sure of it! The weather is heating up slowly but surely and I’m determined to enjoy this wonderful season. Have a super Friday!
