My Favourite Part of the Day

I love getting dressed for work every day, I think it might even be my favourite part of the day. When my alarm goes off each morning I lie in bed thinking about what outfit I’m going to put together (if I haven’t already laid it out the night before). I always start with one item I’m dying to wear and build from there. Sometimes it’s a determination to wear flat shoes or a certain pair of earrings, on this day I was excited to wear this silk t-shirt in the perfect shade of yellowy mustard.

Do you like getting dressed up for work or would you prefer to wear a uniform every day? I've done the uniform thing before and as easy as it is, I was so happy to eventually land a job where I could wear my own clothes, so much more fun!

P.S the weather in Perth has been particularly revolting lately (38 degrees and thunderstorms yuck!) and my hair has been in protest. No matter what I do to it, it just springs back into this massive fluffy mess. I am SO over this humidity!

Street Style Steal

Welcome to another addition to my Street Style series! I’m recreating this image today:

I’ve seen this picture floating around the internet for a while, it’s so simple and effortless but also incredibly chic. I was drawn to it not for the excellent midi skirt or the cute yellow bike, but because of the girl’s New Balance trainers. The trend of wearing sports shoes with non-sporty clothes has been around for a while now, but it’s not one I have ever got on board with. This girl looks awesome but I have always worried I’d feel like Jerry Seinfeld marching around in a pair of gleaming white runners. All that being said when I picked up an almost identical pleated black skirt at the Save the Children sale the other day I knew it was time to road test this look.

(I'm clearly not as talented a photographer as the clever snapper of the original image!)

Comfort wise it doesn’t get much better than an elasticated skirt, a loose white t and sneakers. Style wise I’m not quite sold. I love the simplicity of a great skirt worn with an easy top, but I’m just itching to swap the sneakers for sandals or boots or even my converse. That being said I’m not wearing brand new New Balance kicks like the original street style snap, but rather my two year old gym shoes which have had their fair share of use (at least they are a pretty colour!). I’m not sure, what do you think? Do you wear sports shoes with dresses and skirts?

Skirt: Save the Children Myaree $5
Top: Salvos O'Connor $3
Bag: Red Cross Esperance $2
Shoes: Nike
Jewellery: Assorted gifts

Liebster Award

A few months ago the lovely Jenelle from Inspiring Wit nominated me for a Liebster award, and then just last week Lauren from Lauren Loves Laughter nominated me as well. Liebster is an online award, awarded to bloggers by bloggers. The rule being that you answer the questions from the blogger who nominated you and you nominate other bloggers and provide them with a set of your own questions to answer. This is really just a great excuse to learn some fun personal things about bloggers you love. I was thrilled to be nominated by Jenelle and then Lauren, but I’ve been a terrible blogger and have only JUST got around to answering their  questions! Oops!

(that's me working hard on the questions!)

So without further ado here is a combination of both gorgeous bloggers questions…

Why do you think blogging is important? What do you get out of it?
Blogging is my creative outlet. It’s a way for me to share my ideas and outfits and thoughts in a forum of people who are actually interested. I work a 9-5 job sitting at a desk in an office that isn’t remotely creative, so being able to come home and write about skirts and scarves and vintage dresses is so lovely and cathartic. I can be completely myself with my blog because it’s a space that I created for exactly that purpose. I’m slowly starting to gain a bit of a local following, so I also really enjoy seeing my readers comments and feedback. Being a personal style blogger is frivolous and silly, but it’s super fun and I can’t believe I waited so long to start doing it!

What cheers you up if you've had a really bad day?
Op shopping! It’s my go-to therapy when something crap has happened or if I’m just feeling a bit flat and need a pick-me-up.

What do you pack in your weekend bag for a few days away?
Oh my gosh I LOVE packing for holidays, whether it’s a month in Europe or a two day camping trip, it’s honestly one of my favourite things. My holiday wardrobes differ, but there are a few items that come with me on any trip long or short…A vintage scarf (to hide dirty holiday hair), my iPad stocked full of cheesy chick lit, a couple of pairs of fab sunnies, Burts Bees Wax lip balm and my old grey converse.

Which runway show would you like to see most- if you could go to any?
Chanel or Dior Haute Couture… why not go right to the top hey?

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be?
I’ve lived in Canada, Fraser Island, Alice Springs and the Sunshine Coast and have done quite a bit of travelling around the world, but Perth is where I’m from and will always be my home. That being said I would LOVE to live in San Francisco or Amsterdam at some point in my life, even if only for a few months. I have a euro passport so I’m working towards making those dreams happen!

If you were a character in a TV show, which would it be?
Betty Draper or Blaire Waldorf, so I could get my hands on their wardrobes of course!

Favourite TV shows?
Oh gosh I have so many! Right now I’m watching Breaking Bad, Parks and Rec, Orange is the New Black, Brooklyn 99, Workaholics and Law & Order SVU (always!). I’ve seen every episode of Friends, Gossip Girl, Sex and the City and Scrubs multiple times and they are the shows I constantly go back to when I need a quick pick me up.

What is your theme song and why?
Oh gaaawwwwwd this is the hardest question. I’m just not a music person, which feels like such an awful thing to say. I enjoy music and I listen to Triple J all the time, but I’m terrible at remembering bands and song names, let alone actually purchasing an album or going to a concert. So can I modify this question slightly and tell you my karaoke song? Yes? Thanks so much ;) It’s TLC’s No Scrubs. I had a rather embarrassing attempt at this particular tune while extremely drunk in New York a few years ago and ever since then I vowed to master it and learn all the lyrics. It’s the only karaoke song I’ve got… I’m very much a one trick pony when it comes to music!

What is your guilty pleasure?
Aside from buying stupidly expensive sunglasses, I’d have to say cheese. I’d happily eat cheese for every meal of the day (and have definitely inhaled many a cheese board in my time). I’ve recently started to try and cut out dairy from my diet but giving up stilton and camembert is just not an option!

And now I get to nominate some of my favourite bloggers!

Demelza from Demelza Buckley, Casey from Louder Than Nostalgia and Joce from Fashion 2.1 you’re up! Here are your questions…

Why did you start blogging?
What is your karaoke song?
What three things from your wardrobe would you grab if your house is burning down?
What is the next destination on your travel list?
What is your favourite thing to cook?

The Liebester Award rules:
Link back to the blogger who nominated you. Answer the questions given by the nominator. Nominate other bloggers for the award. Create questions for those nominees to answer. Grab a Liebster Award button for your blog. Let the bloggers know you nominated them!

Lady Date

Don’t you love it that you can dress a little wilder then usual when going out on a lady date? I generally wear whatever I feel like anyway, but when heading out for dinner and/or drinks with my girlfriends I always feel like I have a little more free reign. Girls just get ‘it’. They know my billowing black culottes are excellent not insane. They know my giant gold earrings are amazing not crazy. They might not want to wear what I wear but they understand why I do.

I wore this to catch up with my lovely cousin, we drank wine and ate our body weight in seafood. It was perfect.

Australia Day

Ok so I’m a week late but still… Happy (belated) Australia Day! I spent the glorious Monday public holiday swanning around my parents pool, drinking beer from 10am and listening to some sweet tunes courtesy of Triple J. It was truly perfect and not for the first time I thought about how very lucky I am to have grown up and live in such a magnificent country.

(this is the face I make when I don't have to work on a Monday!)

As with any special occasion I love dressing to a theme. So when I wasn’t splashing about in the water I was wearing this excellent Aussie themed Hawaiian shirt which I picked up in the little boys section of the Freo Salvos store. It really is a testament to thoroughly searching through every rack in an op shop because you just never know what is hiding in the kids or men's section!

The temperature was flirting with 40 degrees last Monday so my biggest hat and brightest sunnies were a must, paired with a thick layer of SPF50 I happily avoided getting sun burnt.

How did you celebrate Aussie day?

In The Navy

Before the epic heat wave of 2015 hit I was craving some winter dressing so pulled out my boots, a knit top, a wool hat and attempted to create a heat-happy outfit. This is what I came up with and it was actually perfect for a 27 degree day.

I know it’s terrible to be longing for winter just so I can wear my coats, but I can’t help it. The other day I cranked the air con and paraded around my house in my newly op shopped leather jacket with faux fur trim and thigh high suede boots. It was awesome.

My boyfriend and I have booked a trip to New Zealand for July and I am SO EXCITED about what I’ll pack. I’m dreaming of wool coats and furry hats and cozy scarves and all of the boots. That’s weird right?

Skirt: Salvos Osborne Park $6
Top: Salvos Mt Hawthorne $4
Bracelet: Opportunity Knocks $3
Boots: Asos
Hat: Glebe Markets Sydney

P.S This skirt is incredibly 'flippy' and I flashed many people while wearing it on a windy day, I'm actually sad I didn't managed to capture it on camera a little better!

Life Recently

Hello! I forgot to do a Life Recently post in December, the silly season seemed to take over my life for a while there! But it’s 2015 and I’m back at it. Life has been hectic with all the usual stuff (work, volleyball, blog etc) but last weekend I found time to stop, drink some champagne and celebrate my wonderful Dad’s 60th birthday. I could babble on for pages about how excellent he is, but to save some time I’ll just say that he’s the most inspiring person I know and I feel lucky every day to have him looking out for me.

So with that little bit of mush out of the way, here’s what else I have been up to recently…

Eating a packed lunch! I'm keeping up the habit and my wallet is thanking me!
Drinking lots of champagne, there seems to be constantly something to celebrate
Cooking new recipes, in the spirit of the new year I am trying to broaden my cooking repertoire, so far so good!
Watching Breaking Bad, I never got in to this show when it originally came out, but now I can’t get enough
Buying nothing new! I’m swearing off the mall for a year, read about it here
Wearing silk and cotton and not much else, it’s just too hot for anything synthetic
Reading Dark Places and Sharp Objects both by Gillian Flynn (of Gone Girl fame) and both harrowingly good
Avoiding online sales, I still get all the discount code emails and it’s killing me
Browsing Pinterest for my Street Style looks to steal, there are SO MANY!
Dreaming of my next holiday (always!)
