Rainbow Bright

I popped into Good Sammies the other day to look for a vase and as I made a beeline for the homewares I couldn’t help but be distracted by two young girls who were flicking through the dresses. One of them pulled this colourful number off the rack and showed it to her friend who burst out laughing and said it looked like a rainbow had yakked all over it. Of course I immediately scooped it up and headed to the change rooms. Not only was I impressed that someone still used the term ‘yak’ but also I’m obviously going to love anything that looks like the contents of a rainbows’ stomach. 

I added my brightest pink necklace and fluro green shoe clips too, if you’re going to look like rainbow bright you may as well go the whole hog! ¸

Back to the Salvos

I almost didn’t share these images with you, because after staring at them for an hour while editing I realised that this dress isn’t actually very flattering. I actually realised this the moment I started snapping pictures before heading off to work last week. But it was too late to go home and change so I just had to suck it up and see out the day. I figure this is probably something a lot of you are familiar with. Realising a moment too late that your outfit/hair/makeup just isn’t quite right but there’s nothing you can do but ride it out. Definitely a first world problem, but a problem none the less!

This dress has a lot going for it. It’s red, which I love. It’s a lovely thick stretchy jersey fabric which is super comfy and it’s got a high enough neck and low enough hem to be appropriate for the office. All good points! Unfortunately it’s the weird little non-sleeves, which aren’t quite capped but aren’t fully sleeveless which make me look like I have gigantic man arms and I swear I don’t!

So it’s back to the Salvos you go stretchy red dress, hopefully someone with lovely thin arms and not quite so much ass will give you a good home!

Retro Kick

This is one of the last outfits I wore to my old job. Seriously lady-like with clashing prints and a retro kick. I love it! It’s funny, when I first started that job two years ago I was so concerned about adhering to the corporate dress code expected of me. But one thing (of the many things) I learnt while working there is that I bloody love a challenge, particularly a sartorial one! So trying to toe the line between being true to my own personal style (what ever that happened to be on the day) and not getting told off by the boss was actually such fun. In my two years I never got told off once for what I was wearing, which I’ll definitely chalk up to a win! 

I start my new job next week, which at the moment is an unknown entity in terms of outfit expectations, so I’ll have to ease into it with boring pencil skirts and blouses for the first few weeks while I suss out what my colleagues are wearing and start introducing some of my more fun outfit combos, crazy shoes and bold accessories. I can’t wait!

End of an Era

I’m not sure if two years truly counts as an era, but I’m certainly ending something. Monday was my last day at work before taking a little break and starting a new job in February. Change is a good thing, challenges are a good thing. Just as you start to feel like you’re in a comfort zone it’s good to push yourself right out of it again. Which is exactly what I’m doing … not with my style though, I went for spots, sunnies and a pop of red for my last day... I can only deal with so much change in one go!

Bright and Cheery

Why hello there!! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, I certainly did! Lots of food, fun and family, just the way I like it. 

My office closes over Christmas so I'm not going back to work until the second week of January. I'm pretty chuffed about it and am heading over to Rottnest Island tomorrow to continue celebrating this fabulous time of year. 

For my last day of work for 2015 I wore this seriously bright and cheery outfit which matched my mood perfectly on the day. How can you not be cheery then you've got two weeks of holidays ahead of you?!

My Round Tummy

I almost didn’t share these pictures, but decided at the last moment (i.e at 6am this morning) that I was being silly. So why was I hesitant to share them? Well, because my tummy is sticking out. My new vintage Burberry skirt, which I absolutely died over when I found it in Vinnies, accentuates all my curves, the nice ones and the not so nice. If it was any bigger then it wouldn’t sit on my waist and I wouldn’t have bought it. I love this skirt, and my rounded tummy is probably thanks to the left over pasta I had for breakfast about 20 minutes before taking these pictures.

Why am I even pointing out my rounded tum? I could have just ignored it and you (my lovely readers) probably wouldn’t have even noticed. I suppose I wanted to draw attention to the fact that I bloody love this skirt, it makes me feel great and I wanted to wear it. Almost every women’s magazine and style blog have articles and posts talking about ‘dressing for your body’ or ‘how to make the most of your shape’ etc. They direct you towards all black or a-line skirts or fitted tops or hour glass dresses, all of which are great and that advice is very helpful (I’m sure I’ve dished it out before as well). But sometimes you just have to wear what you love, regardless of what your body shape is.

I must remember to take my own advice, I have a number of gorgeous 60’s mini dresses hanging in my closet that I rarely take out because I’m never quite sure about showing that much leg. What’s the point of having gorgeous stuff hanging in your wardrobe if it never gets to see the light of day? No point at all! Bring out the legs I say!

Armour

Gosh it’s tricky to get outfit pictures during winter! Not only is it bitterly cold, but the sun doesn’t rise early enough, so having enough light to snap pics before work is very hard indeed. Not to mention the rain, clouds and wind all interfering and making my life very difficult (whinge whinge whinge). All that being said I hauled myself out of bed early enough yesterday morning to capture my work wear armour for the blog... 

I say armour because that’s exactly what it needed to be. Things have been a bit tough at work lately so wearing something that was comfortable (it was Monday after all) and made me feel like a million bucks was very important. I picked up this skirt on a sneaky lunch time op shop last week, it actually is black with a navy stripe, but you can hardly see it in this images. Tube skirts are seriously an office-workers saving grace. They are the perfect thing to throw on when you know you’re going to be chained to your computer all day and wearing track pants isn’t an option.

My fab purple hounds tooth box jacket is part of a vintage suit (this one) and is totally amazing, which in turn makes me feel pretty darn good too. Also you can’t feel crap in pink suede pointy toe pumps. It’s just science.
