Happy Friday! I thought I’d have another go at Spin the Pin, which is a super fun outfit challenge dreamt up by the lovely Jo from iCurvy. She challenges her readers and insta followers to re-interpret another bloggers outfit. For the month of March the blogger in question is Lacey from A Lacey Perspective and here’s the outfit…

Umm, hello nautical! Stripes and a pop of red? Of course I was going to give it a go! Here’s my ‘spin’ on the look…

I took my favourite elements from Lacey’s image and created an outfit that has the same nautical/preppy vibe. Mine also had a vintage spin, because I just couldn’t resist throwing on my cat eye sunnies and 60s brooch. Stripes with white, navy and red are a very classic look which can be worn in so many different ways. I could have happily gone down a casual route with shorts and striped t, but seeing as I wear that almost every weekend I thought this might be a more exciting blog-friendly version. I wore this outfit to work last week and loved every second of it!

Spin the Pin September

I’ve decided to try my hand at another of iCurvy’s Spin thePin challenges. The Pinterest image for September is of Tash and Elle from They All Hate Us, dressed in their trademark style of ripped denim and expensive accessories. These two blogger- extraordinaires have a very specific style which I can certainly appreciate but it’s not usually a look I would wear. I mean I don’t have their long gorgeous legs, so wearing denim shorts for literally every occasion is just not for me. BUT Spin the Pin is all about putting your own spin on a look and taking some style inspo from Pinterest, so I'll give it a go! Here’s their image:

I went on a bit of an op shopping rampage last weekend and scooped up quite a few new things for summer, so obviously I was keen to wear some of my new-to-me gear. I thought I’d try my hand at double denim, wearing my new button down denim skirt and denim jacket. Elle and Tash are renowned for mixing relaxed denim with high end pieces, so I threw on my nautical Celine T (thrifted in Paris) plus my Goyard tote accessorised with a bandanna to complete the high-low outfit.

I really love how Tash (on the right) appears to be wearing a striped top layered over a lace top. That little bit of lace frill poking out the bottom is really cool. I don’t have anything like that in my wardrobe, so I couldn’t re-create it, but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for something similar while I’m trawling through the op shops next.

I just love this outfit, I'll definitely be wearing it again soon!

Spin the Pin

Today I’m doing a bit of a twist on my usual Street Style Steal posts. The lovely Jo from iCurvy launched her own monthly style challenge, which is fairly similar to my idea but encourages everyone to give it a go (damn why didn’t I think of that?!). So I thought this month I would join in the fun and Spin the Pin. Basically Jo selects an image from Pinterest and then asks people to put their own spin on the style. This month the challenge is to reinterpret this image from Not Dress As Lamb…

Boy oh boy do I love mixing prints, this challenge is right up my alley! Here’s my interpretation:

I really love this outfit, it was so fun to wear! I started with my newly thrifted tribal print skirt and then added some stripes and a leopard scarf. Mixing prints is pretty easy to pull off, you just need to keep the patterns tonal. My denim jacket anchors the three different prints and stripes basically go with everything, so as busy as this outfit looks it was actually very simple to put together.

I HAD to include my new Karen Walker sunnies with this outfit as well, just another pattern to throw into the mix! You’ve probably noticed I have a somewhat large collection of sunnies, they are truly my weakness. I hardly ever buy them full price though and I was lucky enough to nab these new season Karen Walkers for $80 from eBay. Talk about a bargain, I just couldn’t resist!

Street Style Steal

Today’s Street Style steal is a combination of two images and ladies I love. Elisa Nalin and Margaret Zhang, both have pretty impeccable street style and neither shy away from bright colours, bold prints and interesting proportions. They are the definition of my style inspiration and I’ll no doubt attempt to recreate more of their street style looks in the future, but for today this is what I’m tackling:

I adore the idea of a head to toe monochrome outfit, and what better colour then red?! Both ladies look completely effortless yet totally perfect, so I certainly had my work cut out for me with recreating this look. Instead of trying to find the exact same pieces I decided to just pull things I already had in my wardrobe and embody the general style of these outfits (rather than just be a copy cat!). My cupboards seem to be overflowing with patterns so I actually don’t have many block coloured items of clothing, luckily red is my favourite colour so I managed to scrape together this outfit without having to head to the op shop.

I'm going to take this outfit down south with me this weekend, at least I won't get lost amongst the long-weekend crowds when wine tasting! What do you think? Is head to toe colour something you would try?

Street Style Steal

I have a new Street Style Steal for you! It’s been awhile and I have a few more in the pipeline but I’m just finding it really hard to take outfit pictures at the moment, there just aren’t any good photo op spots near my parents house. It’s the worst! Anyway, on to the street style snap I’m recreating…

This look is waaaaay out of my comfort zone. Number one; it’s androgynous, with hardly any shape or body definition at all. Number two; it’s all black! This is totally a departure from my usual style, but it was fun to try out for a day. Just from looking at the above picture you can tell this is an easy to wear no-fuss outfit, but seriously I don’t think I have ever been this comfy while sitting at my work desk.

As it wasn’t casual Friday I couldn’t wear sneakers to work (plus I don’t have any white ones) so I subbed in my white studded brogues instead which worked very well. I also couldn’t walk out the door without breaking up the fully black outfit in some small way, so I threw on this long silver tassel necklace which I think has worked wonders to add a little interest to a totally blank canvas.

At work no one blinked an eye lid at my outfit (little did they know I was basically wearing glorified PJs) and I managed to feel professional, put together and completely comfortable. Would I repeat this outfit? Definitely. Maybe not every week, but every now and again when I just can’t be effed getting dressed, this will be my go-to comfort outfit.

Street Style Steal

Happy Friday! Here’s another Street Style Steal for you! One thing I have definitely noticed while trawling through Pinterest looking for images to recreate is that the really ‘cool’ girls are all playing with proportions and layering up. My tried and true look always involves a defined waist. Whether it’s a dress, skirt, pants or shorts I almost always have my waist cinched in and if I don’t I’m more than likely wandering around with my hands on my hips trying to create that hourglass shape. I guess being a tall girl with big legs and hips and boobs I’ve always felt that wearing anything too baggy will just leave me looking pregnant or like a potato sack. But stealing these Street Style looks is all about pushing myself a little and trying out the ‘crazy’ looks of Fashion Week attendees. So today I’m recreating this image;

Skinny jeans and an over sized denim shirt. It’s a lot of look but this girl has very sensibly paired it with basic accessories and natural hair/make up which is exactly what I did too. Just like my previous Street Style Steal, this outfit is SUPER comfy, my shirt is a mens XXXL and could almost be worn as a dress and these jeans are from last winter and feel like leggings. Style wise it's pretty out there for me, but I think it works. This isn’t the kind of outfit I’m going to wear out with my boyfriend, but for weekend drinks with some similarly stylish ladies it’ll do just fine.

So what do you think? Is this a look you are going to be trying? I have to admit, while it’s definitely a stretch I do rather like it, I feel like the cool girl in the original picture, so let’s chalk this one up to a win.
