A Gift from a Friend

I’ve been wanting to share this dress on the blog for a while. I’ve worn it to work so many times, I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to actually photograph it. But here she is…

One of my lovely colleagues wore this spotty dress to work a few months ago, I ranted and raved the whole day about how much I looooved what she was wearing. The next day she walked in to the office with a plastic bag and gave it to me saying that I clearly liked the dress more than she did so I should have it. I was thrilled and must remember to exclaim more about my friends pretty dresses in hope I might inherit them too!

But seriously, you can’t go wrong with a perfectly fitted spotty dress for the office. It’s the ultimate work outfit. Obviously I had to wear it with more spots, because one spotted item is never enough!

Thanks for the dress Lauren, I love it!

Matchy Matchy

Oh mannnnn I love this outfit. It’s SO matchy matchy it hurts, but I don’t care. This is another one of the vintage dresses I picked up in Melbourne at the beginning of the month. The fabric feels like a plastic table cloth and I need to wash it after every wear because she does not breath at all, but boy is it pretty.

I included this dress in my Shop What You Got capsule wardrobe and planned to wear it in multiple ways, but I honestly have worn this exact outfit about 5 times now. The bright blue and white checks just call for a touch of red and nothing else. No doubt I’ll eventually get sick of this combo and mix it up a bit, but until then this is how I shall stay!

Don't Ask Me Where I Got My Top

Happy Tuesday! I’ve had a rather unlucky couple of days so I’m quite pleased that Tuesday has rolled around without incident (so far!!). Thankfully I wore this outfit on the weekend and snapped some pictures of it on Saturday morning before my luck changed.

I already have a white sleeveless shirt that I wore all last summer (here, here, here) and I had been on the lookout for a replacement as the fabric was getting a bit bally. I found this top in H&M on my recent trip to Melbourne. I umm and ahhed and carried it around the gigantic store with me for about 45 minutes before I decided that for $10 I should just get it. I was also very tempted to lie about it on the blog and tell you it’s op shopped, because it’s just the kind of thing you could find in an op shop… except I didn’t, I bought it at H&M.

I’ve worn and washed this little top many times since buying it and I’m happy to report that it hasn’t yet started to fall apart at the seams. Maybe this is one of the few H&M pieces that will actually last a season or two, rather than just a week or two. Fingers crossed because I really like it! (maybe I’ll cut off the H&M tag and pretend I bought it second hand hehe)

Four Simple Goals

Around this time last year I decided to set myself four goals to achieve by the end of 2013. I don’t really ‘do’ new years resolutions, but setting some clear defined goals is a healthy thing and having a relatively short time frame to achieve them means I’ll actually do it. Or at least attempt to.

Last year I managed to complete three of my four goals, so this year I really want to get them all ticked off. There are 53 days left in 2014, heaps of time to kick some goals! So, sometime within the next seven and a half weeks I am going to attempt the following…

1. Start (and stick to) a skin care routine
2. Buy some herbs and keep them alive!
3. Learn a new hair style and wear it
4. Enjoy my house and neighbourhood more

So there you have it, my little list of goals to kick by the end of the year. They are all things I've been meaning to do for awhile, but by writing them down, giving myself a time frame and telling everyone I'm going to do it ensures I actually do!

Are you going to set some goals for yourself?

Shop What You Got

OK so I officially have 13 days left of my Shop What You Got challenge. It’s killing me! I very sensibly only included neutral coloured shoes in my capsule wardrobe, so they would work for every outfit. Very clever Hannah, very smart. Too bad I now HATE THEM ALL! I just want to wear my bright pink pumps, or my yellow wedges, or my leopard print flats! November 18 couldn’t come quick enough (not least because that’s when my holidays start!)

I wore this outfit on Sunday while slouching around Freo (like I do every Sunday!). I’m getting so much wear out of this black dress, it’s just so versatile, which is perfect for the Shop What You Got challenge. Too bad I’ll never want to wear it again. Or maybe just not for a while…

This dress is made out of a really soft jersey and has beautiful draping detail in the front, it's super hard to capture on camera though, so you'll just have to take my word for it!

Melbourne Cup at the Office

Just like Halloween, the Melbourne Cup is another excellent excuse to get dolled up. I normally take the day off and attend some kind of fancy event, but this year I couldn’t rationalise the leave, so I went to work dressed to the nines instead and entered the office sweeps stake.

I was VERY excited to wear this dress. It wasn’t originally part of my Shop What You Got wardrobe, but I’ve allowed myself 4 wild card items and this beauty is one of them. It’s David Meister and I bought it the other day for $10! It fits like a glove and the colour is just perfect, I was dying to wear it and couldn’t possibly wait until the end of my challenge.

Also pay close attention to my gorgeous shoes, I accidentally won them on eBay. It was an accident I promise! My bid was so low I honestly didn’t expect to win them, so when I got an email a week later telling me to ‘enjoy your new Miu Miu pumps’ I was surprised to say the least! They are perfection though and I’m so happy with them, eBay is seriously awesome sometimes!

Halloween

Living in Perth means that celebrating Halloween isn’t such a big thing. It’s such a shame, because any excuse to dress up in costume is fine by me! Luckily my office is full of Canadians who are pretty serious about this spooky ‘holiday’, so we hosted a Halloween morning tea at work last Friday. On top of having to find a work appropriate outfit, I had the added challenge of pulling together a costume from my 30 piece ‘Shop What You Got’ capsule wardrobe… this was no easy feat!

In the end I settled on Minnie Mouse, my housemates were fairly horrified I wasn’t dressed as something scary and as much as I would have loved to don some full zombie face paint, I had to think a little more conservatively for the office. After our morning tea was done and dusted I wiped off my nose and whiskers, put my ears away and transformed into normal Hannah again. Office appropriate Halloween costume? Success!

Did you dress up for Halloween?

P.S I had little white gloves to wear as well but I forgot about them for the photo shoot! Such a bummer because they really complete my mousy look.
